Christmas is over and a new year is approaching! I spent my Christmas with the usual group of close friends. We wanted to pitch tent at east coast park at first but the weather was bad and hence we had dinner at QB's parents' zi char place instead. After that, we went to Seet's place before QB drove us to Geylang for supper. Wow the red light district really shows the other side of sg! It felt exciting yet scary to be there.
The day before Christmas eve, I met up with Ching, Denise and Esther for a walk at the southern ridges. The walk from harbourfront to hortpark took us around 2.5hours. It rained briefly during our walk and we had to seek shelter for a while. Haha I almost lost my handphone pouch during the walk. I did not realise that my handphone pouch had dropped until I was about to show Ching some pictures in my phone. Luckily we were not far away from where I had dropped it and managed to retrieve it back. After that, we made our way to Ikea for dinner!
Here are some photos taken during our walk...
Here are some more photos...taken during AFTH x'mas gathering last week. Thanks Ching for sending me the photos!
Oh man...should I just create a facebook account? I feel bad to trouble my friends to send me photos that are posted on facebook. It seems like facebook makes uploading of photos easy and everyone just shares their photos on facebook. As I do not have an account, I have to trouble my friends to send me the photos separately. But it seems so troublesome and I heard that there are alot of spam mails.
Anyway, on friday I had a small x'mas celebration with friends from elders. Haha we kept it a private event with strictly perfect 10 only and not all volunteers. We went to waraku for dinner and did a small gift exchange as well.
Us with our gifts! I got a coinbank from Pris!
Below are photos taken at the AFTH outing with kids at Botanic Garden about 2 weeks ago. It was our first event for them!
Had a fun time out shopping with Seet yesterday! We went to Orchard to do some X'mas shopping and we had a hilarious time while shopping. For the past few times that I went to Orchard, the whole place was crowded with people shopping for X'mas gifts, even on a weekday afternoon. By the end of our shopping trip, our hands were all fulled of shopping bags and we had a hard time squeezing into the train. We went to Seet's place for dinner and put her things down before making our way to Causeway Point for a movie. However, the queue was so long and took such a long time that we gave up.
Here's a picture we took yesterday.
It was a striped day!! Haha coincidentally we were all dressed in stripes.
On tuesday, we had a AFTH X'mas party of sorts. We had a meeting in the morning and after that, we made our way to Boat Quay. We went to tcc for some drinks and exchanged gifts. Haha it was super funny when we openly sabotaged our vice-chairperson for a gift. I got a usb aroma thing from Ching. Haha coincidentally, she and another friend bought the same gifts for exchange. After that, we made our way to Mind cafe. Haha it was the third visit for me to the same outlet within this month. As our group was large, it was quite messy at times and disappointedly, there are not many games catering to such large groups.
Okie, let me end off with some pictures of cookies!
Denise Loh came to my house to bake the other day and below were the end products!
Yesterday was a garang guni day for AFTH. We started around 9am and only ended at around 6pm. It was a long and tiring day! I was so tired that I postponed my appointment with Denise Loh and I slept super early last night. I did not make it for elder's garang guni session this year and hence the last time I did garang guni was like one year ago. Haha after not doing it for such a long time, I found it super tiring to haul the stacks of newspapers and bags of clothings. Haha I would snatch the slightest opportunity for me to slack while waiting for the lorry. This should be the last garang guni session that I am taking part for AFTH (yeah!) but there may be more to come for elders. Hm, I wonder how much did we earn for yesterday.
Anyway, I realised that I have not posted any photos recently so here are a few to brighten up my blog haha.
Programmers!! This was taken at the previous AFTH meeting but one team member was absent that day so there are actually 7 of us.
Haha this was what we did when we were bored at the Botanic Gardens. The drawings were mostly done by Ching. Guess what are they!
Oh! These are what my former tutee gave me. I met up with her the other day and she showed me her PSLE certificate. I could see that she is really happy and excited about her secondary school life.
A Bientot!
I am so happy for my student! Haha I am not sure if I had mentioned this in my blog before but ya, my student got 200 for her PSLE. She made it into express stream! Although this seems to be something achievable, it's no mean feat for her as she had been failing her maths all the time. This evening she called me as she just came back from Australia and I could hear over the phone that she is very happy and satisfied with her results. She wants to meet me to give me something!
Anyway, tomorrow I will be going to Batam! Haha I have not been there before so I am looking forward to the trip tomorrow!
Okie, some updates...for the past couple of days I have been spruce-cleaning my house with my mum. My dad went overseas and we had nothing much to do so we decided to do some spruce-cleaning before Chinese New Year approaches. Haha although its still quite some time before CNY approaches, we won't have much time to clean the house once Jan starts. But 2 days of cleaning is definitely not enough and hence, our house is in a mess now with the cleaning stopped halfway.
Today, Seet, QB, Eugene, Andy and I went for steamboat buffet at turf city. They have a school holiday promotion now whereby its $12 when you go on mon-fri 12pm to 4pm. Much more worth it than weekend evenings. Haha I have been getting recommendations from friends about Kuishin-bo, Joaquim, tian-tian and even ownself prepared steamboat but I still miss the former Marina South steamboat! We were the only ones eating there as it was too early and hence we had all the food to ourselves. The food was just average though. After that, we made our way to Kbox for some singing.
Okie, that's all.
On Friday, it was the first time we met our beneficiaries for AFTH. They are a group of children aged between 5-8 years old who have varying degrees of handicap but still they attend mainstream schools. The more serious ones came on wheelchairs while the least serious ones look just like any normal kids. Haha there was one little boy who was super cute and he was the favourite for some of us.
I woke up super early that day at around 6.30am as we had to reach the Botanic Gardens before 9am. I was very sleepy and almost fall asleep on the train. Soon after we arrived at the Botanic Gardens, those kids started arriving and there were about 15 of them. We started playing games with them and I was in charge of the first icebreaking game which was very simple. However, some kids were very shy and did not want to say their names. Haha it was quite tiring to get the game going but it benefits me alot as it allows me to recognise and know all their names fast. We played pictionary as well and taught them how to make kaleidescopes. Aiya, should have taken a picture of their masterpieces. Some were really nice and colourful.
After lunch, their parents came to pick them up. It was good to see them happy and smiling by the end of the event. After debrief, some of us made our way to Toa Payoh to have a look at our venue for our main event. The main event is on 7Feb. Hey! If any of you have any contacts for performances, please let me know. I am looking for some performances to be staged during the main event. It can be dance item, band performances or anything that you deem fit. Just let me know ok? Thanks!
Yesterday, I went to the AWWA home for a session with the elders. It has been around 2 months since I last went there and we all missed the uncles and aunties alot! Haha we missed each other alot too and hence for the first half of the session, we chatted alot among ourselves. The auntie who Pris and I always talked to lamented that we did not go there for a very long time, around 1 month plus. Quite glad to see that she is still healthy and fine. We chatted awhile with her and shared some updates. I always enjoy talking to her as she is easy to talk to, just like my grandmother and she speaks the same dialect as me. After our session, a small group of us went to have some drinks and chatted. It was great to catch up with the aunties and also friends.
Wow yesterday I was sleeping for the whole day. Haha I woke up for breakfast only and after that I continued sleeping all the way till late afternoon. If I did not have plans to go out, I think I would have slept all the way till night. I was so sleepy lah. Haha I realised that I have fewer hours of sleep after exams than exams period. For consecutive days, I have been sleeping for about 5-6 hours per night only. That's definitely not enough for me lah. Haha so yesterday I took the chance to repay my sleeping debt.
After repaying my sleeping debt, I went to Seet's place to put my stuff there before meeting up with the rest. We went to this ra-men restaurant in Central for dinner. It was highly recommended by Seet and I did not manage to try it last week. The ra-men was good! The soup was very tasty!
After dinner, we went to Mind cafe. Haha as usual, boardgaming sessions are always crazy and fun. We had alot of good laughs. Last week, when I went there with uni group of friends, Ben and Andy, we played citadel and yesterday we played it again but with some changes to the way we played. My favourite game for now is Junggle... similar to heart attack. Oh! For NTU students, the 10% discount is ending on 31st dec. Haha shall go back there again before the discount is over.
Next, we went to a karaoke pub for some drinking and singing. The place was very noisy. Haha alot of people sang off-pitch lah. I did not sing but QB and Andy did sing a song each. After they were done, we went off to Chinatown for supper at the famous porridge stall. There, we saw 2 gays kissing in a car lah. Haha it was quite shocking that they displayed their affection so openly. Soon, I headed for Seet's home with her and EK and we were so sleepy that we fall asleep not long after we reached her house.
After sleeping for mere 6 hours, I had to wake up to register for my subjects. Luckily everything went quite well except for one tutorial group that I had to switch. Then, we slacked half a day away before I had to go home to get ready for tonight's dinner with my family. My aunt brought us to East Coast hawker centre that has a stall that serves really delicious grilled seafood. My favourite dish was butter-grilled crabs. It tasted abit salty and was very fragrant. I just love seafood!!
