Anyone knows any full-time tutor?? Urgent!!I got my Jay's new album already! Haha I did not know that he was going to release a new album until I asked Agnes. Haha I have not been listening to the chinese radio or watching any entertainment news, that's why. I only managed to catch his new song on radio that day and I wondered is it that his new album is coming. Wow! It's his 8th album already! Quite impressive I think. Anyway, I have not really listened to his new songs yet though.
Yesterday morning, I went to a supermarket near my home and I had a random thought. There were a handful of China workers there buying some things and they were speaking quite loudly, so loudly that quite a few people turned and looked at them, haha I was one of them too. I did not notice their presence at all until more of them came in and talked very loudly. I overheard one of the salesperson commenting to her colleague that China people are ALWAYS that loud.
Hm, that comment made me think. What if a different group of people came in? Maybe a group of Westerners who walked in and started talking in the same volume. Would the salesperson make the same comment? I think that it is inevitable that the volume increases with the size of the group. Why can't that salesperson attribute the loudness to the size of the group instead of their nationality? I think people just have their prejudgments and stereotyping. I admit that includes me inside.
As a result of a construction project just across the street, my area has been recently influxed with foreign workers. Whenever I walk past them at night, I would tend to be more alert. I guess its about my stereotyping about them. I think many people tend to form prejudgments or rather prejudice about others, based on their stereotypings. Moreover, these foreign workers come from developing countries and hence, there is a notion of power relations inside too I think. The serangoon gardens incident is an example. Isn't it an irony? We, acclaimed ourselves as a cosmopolitan city and yet our mindsets contradict the fundamentals of a cosmopolitan city.
