One more week!!!! I have to retreat to mugging mode fast!!!
On Wednesday, I went out with Denise Loh for some shopping and also to send my phone for repair. Great Singapore Sale has officially started but there is nothing much. We went to Orchard and also Suntec but the GSS mood is not in the air. Yes, there are some shops having GSS sales but nothing attractive. It's just the normal 20%-50% discount on SELECTED items. Nothing fancy. You don't see alot of people buzzing around with loads of shopping bags as well. Perhaps it's because it's a weekday. After shopping, I went with Denise Loh to make her Europe trip preparations and then we met up with Andy and Eugene for dinner at Shokudo. I tried a rice thingy and it's not nice. I ordered for grilled chicken and in the end, they served me fried chicken and the meat was tough.
On Thursday, I went for a research programme after our tutorial and it's the first time I step into the Psychology lab. Haha I didn't know that such a place existed in the HSS building. There are many rooms and the place just looks like the HSS office. I was supposed to go to this computer lab to do a visual research. It was quite fun and not as draggy as the first research programme that I did. Haha I wonder how the other rooms look like. Is there one whereby they have a chair and the participant have to sit on it while researchers observe them through a glass? Haha.
On Friday, we were supposed to have another baking session at my house. This time to bake cookies, a recipe that I got from a famous blog. However, in the morning, a couple of us were feeling lazy and decided to postpone it. In the end, I met up with Seet, EK and Ben in the afternoon to shop for Seet's party dress and also to collect my phone. We went Marina Square and Orchard. This time again, I did not feel the GSS mood. We went to Hong kong Cafe for our lunch and it's been a really long time since I last went there. Haha I think it has been months. At there, we waited for EK's results.
Hey! NUS has a really good service. They can request for their results through sms and the cost is just normal sms cost. Aiyo, pity us who have to wait in front of the comp for our results and somemore we do not have an allocated time for the release of our results. After that, I was supposed to go off for my tuition but in the train, I received an sms from my student to cancel the tuition and haha we made a detour to head for Vivo instead. There, we met up with Denise Loh and her bf and we went for dinner at this chinese restaurant that has a black interior. I had la mian with stewed beef and it was average. Only the soup was good.
Alright, this will be my last entry before I retreat into my mugging mode. So, be back on...11 June!
Yesterday had a mid-term quiz for Psychology. Haiz nothing much to say. Just hope for the best.
After the lecture yesterday, I went for a job interview with Priscilla at a job agency. At first, I planned to send my phone for repair right after my lecture. However, the job interview was only held for one day and hence, I thought I should go for the interview and send my phone for repair today instead. Haha but I am lazy today. I guess I shall send it for repair tmr. Anyway, we didn't get any job because their vacancies were to be filled immediately. Hm, I was thinking whether it would be difficult for me to find a job as well since I can commit less than a month and I have my tuition committments as well.
Anyway, today SCV launched a new channel called the AXN Beyond. It's a channel for all the supernatural shows I think. I watched an episode of The X-files just now. Oh my! I miss the show alot lah. I remember I used to watch it when I was younger. And tonight they are showing Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Wow it has been a very long time since I last watched these shows. But sadly, the free preview for this channel is until 2nd June only.
Alright, here are some photos that we took at last week's BBQ steamboat buffet.
Priscilla and I.
My best buddies in RSP Elders.
The seniors and a junior.
Lastly, all those who turned up. Sadly, alot could not turn up because of their work attachments, especially the seniors' seniors haha.
For the whole of today, I have been studying for my quiz tmr. There are so many things to remember that I am afraid I will forget them tmr. Hope the quiz tmr will go well!
Yesterday, RSP Elders had a rally session for the election of the next committee. Haha actually it was not really a big affair. It took around 1 hour only. During the rally, those nominees who are interested in particular posts would give a speech and put themselves through intense questioning from the seniors and seniors' seniors haha. But frankly speaking, the rally did not affect our decision much, at least not mine. This is because some of those who are running for the posts are not regulars. We do not see them almost every week and hence, their commitment to the club is dubious. Some we only see them once in a few months lah. Before the rally, we did some assembly of lamps from IKEA for the home. Not sure was it a donation but there were around 50 lamps I think. Haha it was not an easy job. From here, we could see who are cut off to be mechanic etc.
After our session at the home, I went home for a while to study first before meeting up with my clique for dinner. The 12 of us ( clique minus Denise plus 2 of Seet's siblings, Grace and her sis) went to Chomp Chomp at Serangoon Gardens. It was crowded and it was only after some waiting that we managed to get 3 tables. Hm, I had stingray, chicken wing, satay bee hoon, satay and egg milkcurd. The food wasn't that fantastic, maybe because of the crowd leading to poor quality control. I guess going on a weekday would be better.
I'm too full to sleep. Today has been a "food day" for me haha. In the afternoon, I went to Illya's house with Seet Ee, Denise Loh and Grace for another baking session. This time round, we baked alot of food! Illya is an expert in baking lah. I always love her brownies. Today, I had a chance to taste her brownies again. In total, we baked muffins (those that we baked at my house last week), brownies and bread butter pudding!! All taste super delicious. Haha the muffins pale in comparison to the brownies and bread butter puddings. The brownies are so tasty! It tastes very chocolatey! The bread butter pudding was just nice, not too sweet. I think it tastes better than those I tried at Miss Clarity's. Haha as usual, the experts do most of the job. But this time round, I had a different task. Haha I was beating the eggs instead of putting the mixture into the cups.
After that, I went back home for a while to rest first before meeting my cca friends for steamboat buffet dinner. By the way, there are no longer steamboat buffets at Marina South. All have shifted out. And their prices increased as well. We went for the Chong Pang steamboat which is relocated to Boon Keng Road. It costs $16 now, no longer at the cheap price of $12. But I would say that now the food is better. They are fresher and has a bigger variety. Oh! I love the chilli shellfish that they served. It's super good. Haha I found out that me, Priscilla and Pei Kiat are seafood lovers. Last time when we went to Kukup, we ate alot of stingray. Today, we ate alot of shellfish.
Haha we took some photos as well using PK's camera. I have to wait for her to upload the photos first before I can post it here. So watch out!
Today was the first time we took part in a research programme for Psychology. It's a requirement that all students taking the psychology module has to fulfill. Actually its quite easy stuff, just answer some questions that they have. However, it's super tedious lah. We took 30mins or more to complete just 4 pages! Still have 3 more such sessions to go.
After the research programme, Denise, Wei Ching and I went for our tutorial. Hm, time passes quite quickly with all the debates haha. I guess our tutor was stressed out by the repeated arguments. Then, I went to library to wait for Pei Kiat because we were going for a movie. Haha at first I planned to study for my Psychology while waiting for her. In the end, it was so dry and has alot of memory work that I ended up browsing through blogs and chatting on msn instead.
After meeting up with Pei Kiat, we went to AMK for the movie "Accurancy of Death"! Takashi Kaneshiro is really cute in the movie!!! I kept wondering how he could keep his looks despite his age. Heard from PK that he could well be close to 40s!!!!!!! Oh my goodness!! Totally don't look like it lah. Anyway, the plot was quite amazing. It's sweet yet somewhat intriguing. But let me warn you all that the movie is very slow-paced, at least for me. But afetr you perservere on, you will see the light haha. Next movie to catch will be Indiana Jones!!!!!
Oh my goodness!!!!!!! Guess who called me this morning?? It's a trickster!!!
This morning my house phone rang and I went to pick it up. The person on the other end did not say anything at first. It was only after I said "Hello" for 2 times then he spoke up, "妈,我出事了” He said it with a crying voice. At that instant, I recalled a newspaper report that was praising a few bank tellers who averted a conning scam for an old lady. Apparently, there was an old lady who received this similar call (he said the same thing! Not creative at all) and the old lady panicked. She was told to transfer money to a bank account to ensure her son's safety. Fortunately, the bank tellers were alert enough to spot that something was amissed and asked the old lady to call her son first. Then they found out that actually her son was at work. Thus, they managed to save the old lady from being cheated.
Back to story, when I recalled the newspaper report, I told the man over the phone that he dialled the wrong number and I hung up the phone. After that, I called my Dad and told him about it. He said that I should play along with the man, pretending that I believe him. Aiyo, why didn't I think of that haha. Anyway, what surprises me is that this conman is still at large. I remember reading about this report some weeks ago lah. Haiz, hope no one is being tricked by him. Everyone please inform your elders at home about this so that they would not get cheated.
Haiz...this morning I had a tummy upset and missed lecture. In the end, I stayed at home to watch HK drama online. It's called War-in-laws 2. The second season of the drama serial that is showing on channel 8 at 7pm now. It's nice!!! Not as funny as season 1 but definitely more eye-catching. As the characters are working for a fashion magazine, they are obliged to wear trendy clothes. Think of Devil wears Prada. Moreover, Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong are still as cute as ever.
Anyway, while happily watching my drama serials, my pri 6 student's mum smsed me. She is thinking of applying DSA (direct school admission) for her daughter in Anderson sec Normal Acad. She asks for my opinion. Haiz!!!!! After discussing with her, I am feeling so down. It feels sad to see my student going into normal stream. At the same time, I should be rational and make the best decision for her. She has been failing maths since pri 4. That is our biggest worry. I am worried that she may not catch up with express stream's maths. Her foundation is poor. Haiz, on the other hand, what if she suddenly outperforms? What if she gets 240?!
Haiz...no mood for HK drama le.
On Saturday, I went to the AWWA home as usual and we made sandwiches for the elders. I met up with Priscilla and Pei Kiat earlier to buy the ingredients for the sandwiches. Haha throughout the whole session, we did not prepare any sandwiches. Instead, we were busy walking to and fro Sheng Shiong supermarket to buy more bread etc while the juniors prepared the sandwiches. Oh! I managed to find the auntie that was "missing" for 2 weeks as well. Haha I was kind of worried when I could not find her for 2 consecutive weeks and her mattress did not have any bedsheets on. Usually this means that the elder is no longer there and a new elder is moving in. But fortunately, she is still there. I told Pris and Pei Kiat about it and we were busy looking for her as well. Managed to talk to her for a while and found out why I could not find her. What a relief.
After that, I made my way to Seet's place to play badminton. I was late because I was busy talking to Pei Kiat they all about our upcoming movie and dinner dates that I did not notice the time at all. Haha but in the end, I was not the latest. The whole clique minus Agnes and Eugene turned up. We split into 2 courts to play. It was super sunny! We were perspiring from the heat rather than from the exercise. Next time, we shall play in an indoor court. We had dinner together before I made my way home while the rest went to Seet's place for mahjong.
Here are some photos taken.
On Sunday, I met up with Denise for K-box session at AMK. We sang for close to 5 hours. As the place was crowded, we were assigned a bigger room. I guess that room can hold up to 10 people. Haha so the 2 of us had the whole big room to ourselves. It was my first time into such a big room. I was quite excited at first and even told Denise that we can walk on the U-shaped sofa haha. There were 2 LCD screens as well which I think was quite redundant. Haha it has been months since I last went to Kbox and that shows. My singing was horrible lah. Haha I even forgot how to sing some songs at first.
Anyway, we took some photos as well.
Yeah! We had a baking session at my house today! It was fun!
Haha actually most of the job was done by the 2 experts, namely Seet Ee and Denise. The rest of us, namely Denise Loh, Wei Ching, Seng Keat and I used MOSTLY but not all eyepower haha. We tried to help out abit. The process of baking muffins was actually quite easy and fast. I expected it to be more tedious. The best thing is, the muffins turned out great! We enjoyed the process as well as the products of it!
After baking, we played mahjong. Haha actually our aim was to teach Wei Ching how to play. She picked it up quite fast under my coaching wahaha. After that, Denise went off followed by Seng Keat while the rest of us had dinner prepared by my mum. Then, more rounds of mahjong again! Haha we played daidee too. Haha in the end, Wei Ching learned 2 important games from us - mahjong and daidee.
Hm, we took alot of photos and hence, I will only upload some here while the full collection can be found at this website:
http://community.webshots.com/album/562196701IodAMK?start=28The process of baking. I think the chocolate chips look like a piece of art haha.
Apparently Seet is disgusted by me tasting the mixture although she is the one offering me to do it.
Let's squeeze!
Doesn't this looks appetising?? It looks like being done by professionals right?
Proudly presents the team behind the baking of the delicious muffins!
We shall have more baking sessionsin the future! Maybe bake cake?! Haha am I too ambitious?
(Oh my! I took ard 2 hours to post this entry can u believe it? Its already going 2am! Bcos I am uploading the photos to webshot and after its done den I can post the link here. Haha luckily had some good laughs that keeps me awake)
Yesterday I met up with Priscilla to go threading in Little India. Pei Kiat was busy and could not join us. At first I was thinking of eating bhattura. I miss it alot! But because Pris had lunch already so we did not have that. Anyway, I recommended her the eyebrow threading in Little India and she has been wanting to give it a try since before the exams. However, we could not find a time and so we could only go this week. Haha it has been quite a long time since I last thread my eyebrows and hence, I forgot about the pain. It's not very painful but still there is a degree of pain.
After that, we went to Mustafa Centre. Oh my goodness! It's super big! There's the newer section and older building lah. Haha we spent 3 hours in there! That's a super long time, considering that we only shopped at certain sections such as sports, shoes, bags etc. There are so many more sections that we just walked by. I seriously think that one can shop in there for a whole day. Another thing is, the place is full of products. The shoes and bags may be branded but they just stack them up in the shelves instead of displaying nicely. It does not look expensive stuff at all. You really need to search for treasures haha. I bought a pair of shoes there and also a handbag for my mum. The shoes from Kappa costs $25, which I think is average and the handbag costs $16 which is cheap.
Then, we made our way to a shop opposite Bugis Junction for our dinner. Pris recommended it saying that the fried wantons are very crispy. Indeed it was. It reminds me of the fried wantons that I tried at Sunshine Plaza some years back.
It may look like the average hawker fare but it's not bad. The fried wantons are really crispy but the soup wantons are just average.
After dinner, we went to Kino and we found some books relating to our study of languages. Pris was looking at some jap textbooks as she's thinking of taking Jap level 3 while I was looking at some French textbooks. I am interested to take French level 2 but it will depend on my results first. Hope my French does well!
So far, 4 lectures of psychology have passed and nothing much has went into my mind. There are so many things to remember. I think that the module will be easier for biology students who have studied before the various parts of the brain, the brain functions, the eye and the ear. There are so many facts to remember about them! But I guess these are the basics that we need to know first before we can touch on deeper issues such as perceptions.
On Monday, after our Psychology lecture, Denise, Wei Ching, En Chen and I went to play badminton. En Chen is actually Wei Ching's HI junior and coincidentally, she's an ex-YJCian as well so that makes her my junior as well. What a small world. Anyway, we booked a court in the SRC for 2 hours for free! Must make use of NTU's facilities more often haha. (Haha somehow I am reminded of what Agnes said before, use the swimming pool until the water turn brown) It was quite a good workout. Not only we worked out our arm and leg muscles, we worked out our cheek and stomach muscles as well because we were laughing alot. Oh! On our way to SRC, we passed by some houses that we suppose the professors are staying in them. It's very nice!! The houses line up a driveway and the place is very serene. It looks like those chalets lah.
After that, Denise left earlier while the rest of us continued for a short while before we started to get hungry and thinking of food. We went to Canteen 2 in search of some cold desserts. In the end, we bought some waffles and mango ice dessert. Hm I have heard alot about Canteen 2's waffles but I think it's just average. I like the mango ice dessert though. The mango cubes are sweet and the ice is so finely shaved that it appears to be in layers.
Haha do you know why the 3 spoons were positioned so nicely? That's to cover the empty sides as we only remembered to take a picture after we started digging into it.
More good food tmr!
Argh! I had a bad haircut! Sian...
The past week has been a tuition week for me. Everyday I went for tuition and sometimes 2 sessions a day. That's because all my students were having exams last week. Phew, finally it's over and I have one week break from them. Hm, special semester has also started. It's quite alright so far, nothing much to do YET. But still, compared to normal semester, it should be quite managable with just 6 hours a week. Oh Pei Kiat is taking Japanese this special semester and she says it's interesting. Haha I am quite tempted to take it as well. But I guess I should complete French first.
Anyway, on thursday, Wei Ching, Esther, Denise and I went to celebrate Seng Keat's birthday. It's a super belated birthday. We went to Shokudo at Raffles City. It's something like Marche, in a Japanese style. It was the first time there for some of us and it's not difficult for others to know that it was our first visit there. Haha that's because we were crazy about every food we saw. It's not the typical kind of Jap food that is being served in Jap restaurants. And that adds on to the excitement. There were sooooo many good food. I like the Rosti (some fried potato shreds), the omelette and the pizza best!! Although the Rosti was quite oily, but it goes well with the yogurt cream. The omelette had the tako pachi thing which I don't know what it is called. The tastes blend well together. The crust of the pizza was super thin and had abit of wasabi on it. On the other hand, the desserts were not that fantastic. It left us with a tinge of disappointment. But overall, I would like to go back there again.
The food that we ordered. At the front is the Rosti that I had mentioned.
See the tako pachi thing? It goes well with the salmon inside the omelette, the sauces and the omelette itself.
The ultra-thin crust pizza.
Oh this steamer was used to cook the rice with unagi. The rice has a special unagi flavour to it.
The desserts - Crepes with sweet potato, honey and water chestnut ice -cream and cheesecake with strawberry sauce. Although the ice-cream is made up of 3 flavours, we could not taste any flavour at all.
Ching and I with the magical hand haha.
Esther and Denise.
Denise trying to frame her face with the chopsticks haha.
SK with Ching. Haha see the spoons at the side? Trying to add glitter to the birthday boy.
Ching with her pizza.
One last group photo before we call it a day.
Oh not to forget our neoprints! Haha there was this neoprint machine inside Shokudo and since we did not take any neoprints together before, we decided to take one.
Yesterday, I met up with Agnes for lunch at AMK after her gym. We went to Pizza Hut and their service was really slow. There was one group of students who finished their main course before the soup arrived. Haha it became their dessert instead. After that, we walked to AMK Hub for the cheap dresses that Agnes saw the day before. On average, one dress costs about $24. We bought 3 dresses each. Haha we are the kind who hardly wear dresses but we thought since its so cheap, we should invest in them haha. Somemore its more convenient, you can save the trouble of matching your top and bottom.
Oh! Guess what we saw at the dressing room?! There was an auntie who did not bother to draw the blinds! At first I did not see her at all. I was thinking why didn't Agnes go to the fitting rooms at the left as there were more empty rooms there. Then, suddenly I saw an auntie with just her undergarments inside one of those fitting rooms. I was shocked! The blinds were not drawn at all that's why I thought the fitting room was empty until I saw her. I don't think she forgot to draw the blinds because she was in there for quite some time. She had quite thick make-up on her face as well. Oh my goodness.
After 2 months of break, yesterday I went back to the AWWA home. Due to the exams, we had a 2 months break. Haha because we did not see each other for such a long time, we did alot of catching-up. Most of the time we were talking among ourselves instead of talking to the elders. But that's because there were not many elders around as well. They went for a performance by SSO. Haha at one point in time, me and Pris, together with Janice and Bryan were hiding at the staircase landing to chat, in fear that Abel might see us and starts nagging.
Haha when I just arrived, an uncle asked me if I had just came from work. Haha because I had my jeans folded to knee-length lah. I was dumb-founded. Haha I did not know what to answer him. So funny.
Yesterday I also chatted with another uncle who was just discharged from hospital. He was being hospitalised for one month because all of a sudden he could not swallow anything, not even drink water. He had to put a feeding tube to his stomach now. The thing is, he's very very skinny now. He could only pour 3 cans of nutritious milk into his feeding tube each day and the milk does not cost cheap. We were so shocked that he had become so skinny. I even commented to my friend that I kept looking at his head. You could practically see the shape of the skull very clearly. It's that skinny! He was saying that he is hoping for a miracle from God. Hope he will get better.
Hm...something interesting and touching to share with you people.
Something to reflect on...
When we were young, our mums would wait patiently for us to walk over to them.
However as we grew up, we are getting impatient waiting for them, hoping they can keep up in pace with us.
When we were young, our mums would answer all our "why" questions patiently.
However as we grew up, we find them irritating when they start asking us questions.
The above are some excerpts from an advertisement on SCV about Mothers' Day. Hm...I think it's true leh. It didn't cross my mind at first. How could our attitudes vary so much even though it's similar scenario?
Alright, one week of holidays have passed. Have been busy with my tuition kids because their exams are coming next week and have also been slacking alot at home, think I am turning into a couch potato. But I am enjoying it haha. I just loveeeeee watching TV.
Yesterday was the first time my friends from French class and I went out together. Haha since we were all French students, we went crazy at every sight of French words. We kept reading the French words on bags, shops etc. There was this shop in Bugis whereby they import alot of things from France and we were busy reading every word that we could find and busy decipering it. But of course, we only took level 1 and so our French vocab was super limited. But still, it's fun. We went for lunch at Miss Clarity's cafe (nothing special abt it now) and walked around Bugis. We took a picture inside Intercontinental hotel too.
Grace, Denise Loh, Me and Fang Jing.
After we parted, me and Denise Loh went to Suntec. We bought donuts from donut factory. Haha actually we wanted to try those at J Co. Esther recommended it to me before but the queue was quite long! Guess it must be quite good. There was not much of a queue at donut factory lah. But still, we enjoyed our donuts.
Today went to catch a movie with Denise Loh. We watched Harold and Kumar. Haha it was quite lame. But there are quite alot of hidden messages too. They were obviously poking fun at the America's system. There were mentions of racism, minority, president smoking marijuana (or rather its like almost everyone) and also the crazy sex life that they have. They showed quite alot of unexpected nudity though. Hm...I would give 3 out of 5. Oh! I tried the prawn chee cheong fun at PS that Esther recommended. Really not bad! The prawns taste good and quite crunchy. It's worth the money at $2.80 per plate. But still...I miss the wantons in HK!!
Alright...that's all!
