20 days to exams!!!!! I can't wait for the exams to be over! My last paper is on 25 april, which is one month from now. After that I will be freed! Haha I am the only one ending my exams first. Quite lucky I suppose.

Anyway, this afternoon I walked passed this optical shop that is near my house. It has closed down! I was quite sad when I saw the signboard saying "for rent". From my first pair of spectacles to my contact lenses now,it's all from that shop (only one pair that is from another shop). And that means I have been patronising them since my secondary school days...8 years! And suddenly it has closed down.
I guess I have become emotionally attached to the shop. The salesgirls there are quite friendly and one of them took great pains to teach me how to put on contact lenses lor. It has been so many years that we would smile to each other when we walked passed each other. I could not help feeling quite sad about their closure. As I was thinking about it, suddenly it dawned upon me what one of my profs said yesterday. He was saying that people may grew attached to their neighbourhood and would hestitate about moving out. It's true. I have been staying in this Bishan neighbourhood for 11 years and even though I moved house once, it was still within the neighbourhood haha. If I were to move out of this neighbourhood one day, I guess I would miss it.

Will you miss your neighbourhood as well?

Alright...I just have some random thoughts to share. I guess all these thoughts come to me in the spur of the moment.

Hm...alot of people have always been asking me what is sociology about and what can I do after I graduate. Actually I really don't know. I don't really know what I have studied as well. I can only say, erm...sociology is about studying culture, society etc. What can I do after I graduate? Hm...up till now, I still have no idea. Some government sector jobs? Policy making? But seriously, all these does not really appeal to me.

Hm...I guess I enjoy studying sociology and that's what that is most important. I can't imagine myself studying some science or engineering module. The thought of it puts me off. It's totally alien to me even though I have studied it for many years before. What I can say is, sociology is an interesting subject. What other subjects allow you to watch countless of videos that really make you think more about this society? What other subjects will talk about issues that are so relevant to your daily life? It's so relevant to our daily life that we take it for granted and never think much about it. Although there are tonnes of readings to do and mostly are long and dry, at least it is talking about something that is not alien at all. At least I can make references to my own life.

Even though I do not know what I can do with a Sociology degree, I never regretted taking sociology.

Argh! I have a decision to make! Should I take inter-sem?

Its from 5 May to 11 June. If I take, my 3 monthes holiday will be GREATLY reduced to 3 weeks lah! Aiyo! Because after my last paper, I will have one week break before inter-sem starts. After it ends, I have 2 weeks before our Thailand trip and after Thailand trip I will go to Laos then back to school le. It sounds busy and tiring leh. But if I don't take, I will have alot to clear during my school sem....haiz. But actually the inter-sem is oni study a few hours each day lah just 2-3 hours. But Jap needs 4 days!! Pschology better, oni 3 days. Which should I choose too? Argh...give me advice! I need decide by Wed lor die.

Oh ya...today we watched some videos about animal cruelty. Let me tell you its super gross and cruel. Chickens, pigs and cows are slaughtered so horribly. It's not a clean cut! It's letting their blood drip while they were stll alive and the pigs were skinned alive. Really skinned alive lor. Those slaughterers are really sick lah. They were smiling and enjoying themselves while torturng the animals. So many people were so disgusted by the video that they left halfway through. One friend even commented that she felt like vomitting. Half of the time I was peeping through my fingers lah so er xin.

These 2 days I have watched 2 movies and they are very very different from each other. Yesterday, I watched Horton with Seet, Agnes, Denise Loh, Andy and EK. Today, I watched Das Experiments with Denise, Ching and SK in school as part of the weekly movie screening by one of our tutors.

First, I shall talk about Horton. It's a veryyyyyyyyy funny movie! Haha 85% of the time we were laughing real hard. It's about this elephant called Horton who went about to save a world that had existed on a speck of dust. Of course, nobody believed him. But! He proved that there is something that exist even though it can't be seen, heard or touch. Haha actually it has alot of messages that are hidden. I didn't realise about those messages until the rest talked about it after the movie haha. But still, I had a great laugh. It's worth the money.

Now, the second movie, Das Experiments. It's a German film about an experiment that went horribly wrong. It's a direct contrast from the above movie lah. While watching the movie halfway through, I felt so disgusted and hopeless that I harboured the thought of not watching it anymore.

It's really horrible. I must say that the actors' acting are real good because it seems so real and and affect us emotionally. Itsabout a group of participants in an experiment about behaviour kind of thing. The participants were divided into 2 groups, the guards and prisoners. Those who acted as the guards are not real guards. They are just normal men who took part in this experiment for various reasons. However, just one day into being a guard, their attitude and behavious changed. They humiliated the prisoners to gain control over them and did very horrible things to the prisoners. At the fifth day of the experiment, the whole thing went out of control and the guards were like crazy. Fortunately, the prisoners except one managed to escape on the fifth day.

Just 5 days and something can go horribly wrong. A person's attitudes and behaviours can lose control within 5 days. This experiment also shows how unethical researchers can be. Even though they saw signs of things going wrong, they persisted on with the experiment. Having different identities can also lead to different behaviours and attitudes. I felt quite down after the movie lah haha. Wonder what's next week's movie.

Finally I have decided...I have decided to su my public policy module and retain my french module. I am quite tempted to su both modules but still, I am afraid that I may need those crucial su in the future. So...off goes public policy. That's quite a relief too, esp when there is the project that I am not sure about.

Hm...tmr back to sch again and I have an essay to do. So sian. I can't seem to find much things to write for that essay and up till now, I only have a brief draft in mind.

Hm...last Wednesday I met up with Agnes to pass her the souvenirs that I bought from HK and also to go home tog. Although the ride was quite short, but still we always have a good and fun chat tog. On thursday, I met up with the rest of the clique to pass them their souvenirs. We had dinner at Iciban as well. It has been quite some time since I last ate Iciban. Haha there was once whereby we eat it very frequently. Haha luckily I passed the souvenirs to them early, otherwise it would be wasted. Yesterday, I wanted to pass the lao pao ping to Pei Kiat and Pris. In the end, I found out that it had already started to mould and I did not have anything to give them. So sorry about it lah.

Anyway, my phone has been sent for repairs. There's this black line that appears in the middle of the screen. It has been there quite some time already, just that its more frequent and stubborn now haha. So on Friday, I sent it for repair and I have to collect it on tuesday. Just nice, Seet wanted to buy some hip hop clothes for a birthday party so we, tog with Agnes, Ben and EK went to Orchard. And ya, QB set off for Japan on Friday too. So cool.

Alright, I am here to blog about my Hong Kong trip. Overall, it was fun. We did sightseeing, experiencing Hong Kong way of life and also shopping! Haha it was really an escape from reality. When I was on the plane reaching Singapore, I suddenly felt stressed by all the tests and readings that were waiting for me because I had a test on Monday and another on tuesday.
I must say that Hong Kong really impressed me quite alot. It's not that the city is very beautiful (in fact alot of their buildings are quite old), it's their spirit that amazes me. Actually Hong Kong is made up of alot of mountains and deep waters. Hence, it's quite difficult to find flat land to build buildings on, very different from Singapore. Haha when driving around, you can see alot of buildings in the middle and top of mountains and buses winding up the slopes. And to get across the deep waters, they even have 3 underground tunnels! Yes, they are underground tunnels in the deep waters!!! Whenever I pass through the tunnel, I am always amazed by it. It's a pity that the tunnels are made up of concrete walls and not glasses. Haha it will add on to the excitement if we can see the waters when in the tunnel.

Alright, here are some photos taken.
This is a performance called the symphony of lights. The lights of the buildings will "dance" with the music. They have this every night. They must have spent alot on this.

Here comes one of my fave food in HK. It's called hong shu fen. It's translucent noodles with a very chewy touch. Quite spicy too. Oh ya, HK does not really serve much chilli. They only serve one kind of chilli in most eateries and it's not the kind prefered by Singaporeans. So, for chilli lovers, better bring your own chilli along.
This is a wax figure of Yao Ming. This is his actual height ok! Super tall right? Oh my goodness, I am only until his stomach!
Haha I am part of the royal family leh. But I think Queen Elizabeth looks quite young here.

Ok, here's our minister mentor. Let's be formal here.
Haha Agnes was so funny. When she saw this picture, she immediately exclaimed that I should have high-5 with this premier Wen. Haha honestly, it didn't cross my mind at all lah.
Look at this. It's you tiao wrapped with chee cheung fun (don't know how to spell). It tastes quite ok. Actually in Hk, I tried chee cheung fun wrapped with prawns and pork too. I think that their chee cheung funs are very soft, very palatable.

Hey don't belittle this beach. It's called Repulse Bay. The tour guide told us that many high-profile people such as Jackie Chan, Tony Leung, ex-govenor Tung Chung Hwa and even Stanley Ho's 4th wife stays here. HK people believe that this place has very good feng-shui with the dragon head there.

Cable car!! It's my first time taking a cable car. My mum said that I took one before when I was around 3. Of course I could not remember anything lah. Haha when it first went off, I was abit scared. It's so high up and it moved quite fast at first. But after a while, I was ok, provided that no one shakes the cable car haha.
Me and my Ah Ma inside the cable car. We took one that was purple in colour!! Haha and it was numbered 101.
Me and my dad with some cute pandas. I wonder why they associate pandas with corns. Shouldn't it be pandas with bamboos?
The real panda!!!!!! Oh my goodness, he's so cute!!!! He came out into the enclosure and started walking towards some bamboos. As the bamboos were one step downwards, he did not slowly climb down. In fact, he just dropped onto his butt and sat there eating.
Me and a fake panda. But that's exactly how the real panda was eating his bamboo shoot. Oh man, I was totally mesmerised by the panda.
Here's some jellyfishes. Very translucent right? I think its nice.
Seahorses. I think they are very beautiful. Especially when they are black in colour and it contrasts well with the white sand.
At the top of the Ocean Park. Half of the Ocean Park is on top of the mountain while the other half is at the bottom of the mountain. We took 3 long (really long) escalators up.

We went to this traditionl fishing village called the shui shang ren jia. It reflects how the people in the past used to live in HK. They would live on the boats and do everything there, including da pian.
My parents with the backdrop of HK's view. We were at the Victoria's peak. It's the most famous peak in HK. I prefer the night view though. But too bad my camera could not capture it well. Hence we had a photographer to take a photo of us with the night view.
Here's the famous Great Buddha of HK. Before we went there, some relatives told us about this place. Remember in HK dramas, they always mention something like qu da yu shan chi zhai. Ya, this is the place. We didn't chi zhai there because it was very crowded. Me and my parents climbed up 224 steps to see this Great Buddha. Haha we were breathless when we reached.

Oh man, I am drooling at the look of this wanton. I miss it so much!!!!!!! It tastes super good! The skin is soft and inside there's 2 prawns. Fully succulent and crunchy prawns. No meat at all. The soup tastes heavenly too. Haha my mum was already missing it while we were on the flight back home.

Another of my fave food. I miss this alot too!!!!!The mango juice is really thick. The mango pulps are sweet and juicy. The sagos make it even better. I was so in love with this dessert that I had it on 2 consecutive days.
In total I have 4 faves. One is the noodle, the wanton, the mango dessert and...egg tart! It's super soft and wobbly that you cant hold it well with 2 fingers. You really need to support the whole egg tart. The crust is flaky as well. Haiz...I was so eager to eat that I forgot to take a picture first.
Here's what the streets of HK look like at night. Almost all the streets in Kowloon area look like that, with the neon signboards. It's very HK. Another thing that is very HK is yum cha. Alot of people, mainly middle age onwards, will have dim sum for breakfast at a restaurant and they will bring a copy of newspaper along to read. Almost all tables did that.

Haha to round it off, I would say that visiting HK is like stepping into the television.
