Yay! Finally our Bintan trip is confirmed. Haha so happy...me and nise have been thinking about having a trip since ages ago. Hope the weather next week will be better.

Today I was supposed to catch a movie with Priscilla, Pei Kiat, Jia Jun and Kelvin. In the end, I didn't go because of some unforeseen circumstances. Sian. Ended up lazing around at home and doing some things that are long overdued.

Oh ya, my trip to gym. Hm...I would say that trip inspired me to exercise more. It has been a looonnngg time since I last worked out that much. It really feels good to exercise and sweat it out. The gym was quite nice too. the people there are friendly as well. Haha I was quite tempted to sign up memebership.

Ya...finally tmr going gym. Haha has been dragging my foot on this. Haha isn't the reason obvious...i'm just lazy to exercise. Argh! My sport shoe's soles have come out. What a time!

Anyway...yesterday bought clothes again. Yesterday went for K-Lunch with denise and agnes. Then we went orchard to repair agnes's handphone and shopped. I bought 2 clothes from Zara. There's sales. That day went to Zara at Marina with Priscilla but didn't see so many sale items.

On Sunday, went to Qb's birthday party. It was a nice party, minus the bad weather. Luckily Agnes's planned birthday party is not outdoors. Hm...shall start planning mine...second in row.

Yesterday was my last day of work at RP. We ended early again, this time we ended at around 1pm. We had finished all the 200 surveys real fast, all thanks to the allure of $10 borders voucher. After having our lunch at RP, we chatted for about an hour before we went off. The guys went back home while Priscilla and I proceeded to Marina Square for some shopping. Haha it was a last minute attempt to grab bargains before the GSS is over. Hey everyone, reminder : last day of GSS is this Sunday!

After shopping, we met up with Pei Kiat, Janice and Jia Xin for dinner and also a concert by Singapore Symphony Orchestra at Esplanade. We were given 5 tickets by the elders home. It was a charity concert for SMRT Silve Tribute Fund.

The concert was really good. We were so captivated by by their first piece that our jaws were practically dropping. Haha during the second piece, something embarrassing happened.

There was this soprano who came onstage to sing some italian songs. Haha the moment she opened her mouth, I started giggling. Of course I tried to hide my laughter, especially when we were seated in the 2nd row. I was reminded of those variety shows whereby they will ask ppl to sing soprano to make ppl laugh. Haha it sounded like them I thought. Haha especially the part where she hit the notes whereby the glass may shatter anytime.

Haha jia xin was sitting beside me and she was also trying hard to control her laughter. Haha it was really hard to contrl, especially when your friends sitting beside are also giggling. Laughter is contagious! We quickly look at the booklet given to us to cool down.

The funniest thing is, even one of the violin player onstage was giggling as well lah. After we managed to cool down, I concentrated on listening to her singing. It was really good. She did not have any mic on! Her voice was really powerful and expressive. We could see her diaphramn beating lah!

The conductor was also another great figure. He is from New York and is conducting the SSO for this occasion. He was always moving to the music and at some points of time, it was like he was going to collaspe anytime.

Alright...here are some photos taken yesterday. This is really an eye-opener for me. At least i won't giggle the next time.

Me and Priscilla at Marina Square.

Look at the colourful lights behind me. Nice right?

We saw this painter painting on the spot at Marina Square. I like the colours he uses. Very lively colours.

Five of us in esplanade. Top: Priscilla and I. Bottom from left: Jia Xin, Pei Kiat and Janice.

"Wow, so nice!"

"Oh my goodness! Look at that! It's so big!"

"Hey! Got alot shops leh"

"Aiya new mah...everything also nice"

Haha wondering what's the above quotes are about? These were what I could not stop exclaiming once I entered Republic Poly. Ya, sounds like a country pumkin right? But its really so so much nicer then erm...NTU? Ya much better.

Today was my first day giving out surveys at RP. We set up 2 booths, one at canteen and another at the common ground. I was stationed at the canteen. Another exclaiming point to make...the canteen is fully air-conditioned! Can you believe it? Practically the whole compound is air-conditioned I guess.

We were supposed to finish 200 surveys in 5 days but I guess tmr we may finish everything. Haha the response was so overwhelming that by 2pm, we were having our lunch and ready to go off. Haha it was supposed to be from 10am to 5pm. Guess tmr we may finish early as well. Its hourly rated so hope that guy can help us to negotiate with his prof for better pay haha.

After our lunch (the food there is nice and reasonable price), we went exploring the school. The library is like 10 times of our HSS library!! They even have a cafe in library! Really crazy lah.

After exploring, we headed for causeway point. We watched a korean cum hong kong production movie called my wife is a gangster 3, starring shu qi. Ya, that show has been around for quite a long time. We did not have any other movie choices so we decided on this. Perhaps its bcos we did not have high hopes for this movie, that's why we thought it was nicer than expected. It's funny. Maybe 3 popcorns.

Yesterday I read the Saturday Special and it was quite shocking and maddening. It was reported that in Hainan, the gender imbalance was bad, with 138 males to 100 females. For a country to have good gender balance, it is usually 107 to 100.

I was shocked to know that China prohibited gender ultrasound screening! I always assumed that this screening is a procedure that every parent would go through. But I was so wrong. However, before you start gasping and cursing the China's government, they have a good reason to do so. They do not allow doctors to reveal the gender of the foetus to their parents, for fear that they would abort the child if it was a girl. Sad to say, this does not deter the parents. They went on to bribe the doctors for as low as less than $50. The doctors would shake their heads if it was a girl and nod their heads if it was a boy. Some of them went on to abort the foetus once they knew it was a girl.

Sad isn't it? Is giving birth to a girl that horrible?

Apparently they thought so. When a woman gave birth to a boy, there will be laughter and congratulations. However, if it was a girl, there will not be any smiles. This reminds me of the drama serials that were set in the early 40's or 50's.

What makes me mad is that they treat girls like...shit. It seems like giving birth to a girl is like giving birth to a lump of shit that is so disgraceful. There were many parents who abandoned their baby girl on the streets as well. Is girl that inferior to boy? Yes, I understand that traditionally, boys are preferred over girls. But do they have to treat girls so badly?

And the thing is, there are so few women that many men are still bachelors. The few women who were born and raised mostly went to the cities area to look for jobs. They were saying that this may leads to bigger problems. The bachelors may turn to prostitutes, leading to increase in STDs and there may be a rise in bride trafficking. If I didn't remember wrongly, it was a sociologist who said that. I wonder if the people who detested girls so much had thought about these consequences.

Anyway...I got another job! Haha...this job was recommended by my friend again. She was the one who recommended me the MOM job as well. Haha must say that Priscilla has alot of lobangs. We will be starting on 18th July at Republic Poly. The 4 of us need to give out surveys, about 200 surveys in all. We will have 5 days to do it. Its hourly rated. Haha the pay sounds good as well.

Dengue fever!

Everyday I have been reading the articles on dengue. The numbers have been alarming. For this 6 months, there have already been 3500 cases and counting. That is...19 cases a day!

It's not really deadly, so far 3 died. But! It's super horrendous. Patients have to go through 14 days of suffering before they can recover. Some patients lamented that the pain is so bad that they thought they were dying. They even called it break-bone fever, because the pain was like ur bones are breaking. Can you imagine?

If serious, patients can deliver serious internal bleeding, which can be fatal. I saw a picture whereby a patient's eyes was red instead of white. It's really scary. Some patients may go into dengue shock syndrome whereby they can have heart attackes and so on.

So people, don't take this lightly. You wouldn't want to be vomitting and taking blood test EVERYDAY. Try to clear all mosquitoes breeding spots and best option, light up mosquito coils.

Okie...think I sound like the NEA(National Envt Agency) people.

Anyway, there is a new K-box at AMK! It's really nice and cool. You can adjust the air-cond in your room! There is this light that can change colour all the time, giving the room a very nice ambience. Best thing, it has no cigerette smell at all! Go try it ppl!

Haha...think I sound like a promoter now.

But...AMK seems to have alot of new amenities now. So...get the hint?

I have resigned!

This morning I went to MOM and returned all the stuffs to my supervisor. She was nice actually. She even apologised for pushing me so hard for the past few days and told me to reconsider. I was abit hestitant about quitting then. But I am just not confident to commit and just to be safe lah. Apparently, the girls in my group had all quitted and there are 2 new members.

Anyway, I'm back to the have-all-the-time-in-the-world-but-no-money kinda days.

After meeting my supervisor, met up with Seet who was there as well. We went for a movie at Cathay. Transformers! I was quite relunctant to watch that at first but no other movies. Luckily we watched that. It was so...captivating. The movie was fast-paced with a nice combination of real life and fantasy. I applaud the director - Micheal Bay.
